In Kostanay, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Astana cities the trainings “Sound management of persistent organic pollutants, mercury and healthcare waste” were carried out.
In the framework of the UNDP-GEF and Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan project on the persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and healthcare waste management jointly with the Project of the Ministry for investments and development of the UNDP-GEF and Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan project on energy efficiency on March 13-15 in Kostanay and on March 16-18 in Ust-Kamenogorsk and on April 17-18 in Astana cities the trainings “Sound management of persistent organic pollutants, mercury and healthcare waste” were carried out. The participants of this trainings were representatives of Public Health Departments, Natural Resources and Environmental Management Departments, Environmental Departments, Environmental Prosecutor’s Offices from all regions of Kazakhstan. The issues on management of waste of production and consumption in Kazakhstan, “green” public procurement in the spheres of energy efficiency and healthcare waste treatment. Moreover the National Implementation Plan on obligations of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Stockholm Convention and results of POPs monitoring in environment, mercury management and practical recommendations on healthcare waste treatment and autoclaves use have been presented.
“According to the current legislation the specialists should be regularly trained on healthcare waste treatment. In this regard such trainings, particularly with participation of international experts who share practical experience, most frequent mistakes during healthcare waste treatment and the ways to avoid them are very actual and well-timed. Moreover environmental friendly methods of healthcare waste treatment with possibility of received safe materials recycling were demonstrated”, - said Bashkircseva Tatiana, a chief specialist of department of sanitary and epidemiology control over healthcare-associated infections of the Department on consumers rights defense of East Kazakhstan oblast.
