A monitoring visit was held in Astana, Kostanay, Ust-Kamenogorsk for demonstration of Project objects

As part of the joint UNDP-GEF project on Persistent Organic Pollutants (hereinafter referred to as POPs) and healthcare waste from September 8 to 11, 2017, a project monitoring visit was held in Astana, Kostanay and Ust-Kamenogorsk cities  for participants of the Project Board and Advisory Council on technical issues of the project, which are representatives of state bodies, private enterprises, scientific institutions involved in the management of healthcare waste and POPs. The Centers of Healthcare waste treatment, created by the project, purchased specialized  machines for transporting and collecting healthcare waste, as well as samplers for passive sampling of air sampled at the meteorological station of the East Kazakhstan branch of RSE Kazhydromet were demonstrated to participants.

"As an expert and citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I am very glad that owing to UNDP Project in the pilot regions, healthcare waste treatment is performed in a safe way without negative impact on human health and the environment. Undoubtedly, this is a big plus in the development of our state and its desire to be among the advanced developed countries, "said Eldar Bazkenov, the chief expert on waste management and green economy of the Department of Natural Resources and Nature Management of the Akimat of Astana.
